Me and My Pocket Hole Jig

This is a wood base that is designed to be the foundation for the new Kreg Jig K5 and its newly added storage wings. This base gives your Kreg Jig K5 added support on multiple surfaces and allows your Jig to always be ready to go with any of your wood working projects.

Follow the steps below to complete this project.

Find your boards

I used miscellaneous Cedar board lengths that I had laying around from previous projects. This allowed me to not only choose different wood grains, but also different wood colors as well.

Brake out your miter-saw

Using your miter-saw cut all boards to the plan lengths.

Put the pieces together

After all of your boards are cut to length, piece them together checking for cut accuracy and desired look.

It's K5 time

Using your Kreg K5 pocket hole jig drill your pocket holes at there planned location.

Sand and assemble

Sand each piece and position according to plan with you pocket holes facing up. Insert 24 course thread pocket holes screws into the allocated pocket holes. I added a bead of Titebond wood glue on all edges as i screwed all the pieces together for added strength. Note* there are 2 joints were the wood grains run the same direction; hand tighten these 2 joints to avoid stripping the screw holes.

Clamp it up

After all of the boards are glued and joined together, I clamped all 4 sides of the assemble boards, snugging them just enough to were the glue squirted out of the joints. I then hand tightened all screws about a quarter of a turn and then let the glue dry.

Time to make it pretty

Remove your clamps and scrape any dried glue from the joints. I used my Bosch router and a round over bit to make the outer edge to my desired look. I then used my Bosch hand sander to removed any imperfections and make the top surface smooth and ready to be stained. Brush on the stain and let dry overnight.

Time to finish it up

Now that the stain is dry, position your Kreg K5 Jig in the center of the assembled board. Insert 12 course threaded screws and secure your jig to the board. Done!
