  • Build Sides of Chair Frame

You will need to build two of these sides for each chair.
Cut 2- 24" 2x2's. Drill pocket holes in one end.
Cut 2- 27 1/2" 2x2's. Drill pocket holes in both ends.
    Cut 2- 30 1/2" 2x2's.

Attach the 27 1/2" board to the 24" boards, 10" from the bottom, using wood glue and 2 1/2" pocket hole screws.

Attach the 30 1/2" board to the tops of the 24" boards, using wood glue and 2 1/2" pocket hole screws.

    See plans.

  • Add Diagonal Support

Cut 2- 27 5/8" 2x2's, angled at 5 degrees on both ends. Drill pocket holes in both ends.

Using wood glue and 2 1/2" pocket hole screws, attach the diagonal support to the 24" 2x2's. One end is 12 1/4" from the bottom, and the other end is 10" from the bottom.

  • Add Horizontal Supports

Cut 3- 25" 2x2's. Drill pocket holes in both ends of each board.
Attach the boards to the chair frame sides with wood glue and 2 1/2" pocket hole screws.
The front seat support will be attached at 12 1/4" from the bottom.
The back seat support will be attached at 10" from the bottom.
The back top support will be attached flush with the tops of your side supports.

  • Add Seat Supports

Cut 4- 25" 2x2's. Drill pocket holes in both ends of each board.

Using wood glue and pocket hole screws, attach these seat supports every 5" along the diagonal support, starting from the back (lower end of the diagonal support), and working toward the front.

  • Build Backrest

Cut 4- 22" 2x2's. Drill pocket holes in both ends of each board.
Cut 2- 29 1/2" 2x2's. One end of each board will be cut at 10 degrees. The measurement is taken on the LONG side of the angle.
Using wood glue and 2 1/2" pocket hole screws, attach the 22" boards to the 29 1/2" boards, leaving 7 1/4" between the boards.
    See plans.

  • Attach Backrest

Using wood glue 2 1/2" wood screws, attach the backrest to the seat support and chair frame.

  • Backrest Explanation

The angled side of your 29 1/2" boards will match up with the angled board of your seat support. The backrest will meet up against the top of your seat frame.

  • Finish Chair

Fill all the pocket holes in your chair. Sand and either stain or paint the wood. Make sure to use an outdoor polyurethane if you are using outdoors.

  • Add Cushion

This chair frame is designed to use a deep seat cushion for both the backrest and the seat. These seat cushions are 24" x 24", and 4" thick. You can find these at most retail stores. See details for the exact cushions I used at: www.TheCreativeMom.com/modern-outdoor-chairs
