Directions

  • Assemble the Universal Workbench

Begin assembly of the 28"x 44" Kreg Universal Workbench with standard height legs that can be adjusted from 31" to 39" tall. I built this unit to be my new outfeed table for my new table saw, so I went with the standard adjustable leg levelers instead of a wheel kit.

  • Base

Cut the base to fit the opening, the cabinets and air filter will rest on the base. The Base will measure, 3/4" x 27 3/4" x 43 3/4". I went with MDF for the extra weight.

  • Cabinet

I ripped and crosscut three panels measuring, 3/4" x 27 3/4" x 14 1/4" to make up the sides of the cabinets. I ripped and crosscut two panels measuring, 3/4" x 27 3/4" x 13 3/4" to make up the top and bottom of one cabinet. I ripped two stretches measuring 3/4" x 4" x 24 1/2". These stretchers will be the be cut to fit the air filter you have purchased.

  • Pocket hole

Using my recently built Kreg Foreman Cart, I pocket holed the top and bottom panels, the stretchers, and one side of the vertical panels for the cabinet parts because it will be attached to the base.

  • Assemble the Cabinets

First assemble one cabinet that will have the shelf, I didn't want a back on this cabinet, I wanted to be able to access my tools from either side.

  • Attach the Stretchers

This part can be pretty tricky, I attached the stretchers to one vertical panel, slid in the panel with the stretchers then attached the other end of the stretcher to the first cabinet. If you are confused, check the video on Youtube.

  • Shelf Pins

I wanted to have the unit be accessible from both sides, I opted to have one shelf. the shelf measures, 3/4" x 27 3/4"x 13 5/8". I also made a dado on the bottom side so the shelf wouldn't not move if I slid something inside. It acts like a catch with the shelf pins. Check my Youtube video on how I did this.

  • The Top

I cut the top for the workbench measuring, 3/4" x 32" x 48". You will have to remove the cabinets to fix the top to the Universal Workbench. Reattach the stretchers to side panels.

  • Pocket Hole the Outside Panel

Once the top is attached, attach the cabinets to the base.

  • Peg Board

I cut a peg board panel to be the end cap for the filter cart. Panel was 1/4"x 24" x 15 1/4".
