Are you sick of those ugly, flimsy shelves balancing over your toilet in your bathroom? Well we have a solution for you! Here is a simple, classic wood shelf for hanging over your toilet in your bathroom. It is a cheap and easy project that anyone can tackle!

Follow the steps below to complete this project.

Step 1

First cut your shelf boards. Cut your 1x6 into three 22" long boards. Make sure that these are all the same length.

Step 2

Cut your side boards. Cut your 2x6 into two 30" long boards.

Step 3

Layout your "cove" design on the bottom of your side boards. Use our design, or make your own. Transfer the design with a pen/pencil.

Step 4

Cut out your design. A band saw or scroll saw would work the best, but a jig saw will get the job done just fine.

Step 5

Drill all of your pocket holes and evenly space the 1x6 shelves. Drill 3 pocket holes with your Kreg Jig on each side of your shelf boards. Attach the top shelf first, that way your drill will have enough room to get the other 2 shelves attached.

Step 6

Almost done! Fill your pocket holes with some wood filler. Let it dry overnight, and then sand it off flush the next morning.

Step 7

Now you can focus on finishing. Sand up the rest of your shelf. Pick out a stain or paint of your choice. We used one coat of 'Minwax Dark Walnut' penetrating, oil based stain. This gave the shelf an "antiqued" look. Next you need to apply 2-3 coats of a polyurethane of your choice. It works the best if you use the same brand polyurethane as your stain. This stain and poly combo works well because it dries very quickly.

We love how this project turned out, and hopefully you do too! Make sure you check out our website, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram @hazeloakfarms.
