Rustic X Entry Way Console

Follow the steps below to complete this project.

Step 1

Assemble top and bottom shelf by attaching 2x2s to 1x12 with glue and brad nails. Be sure to measure your 2x2s against the 1x12 before making your cuts. Attach the smaller 2x2 sides 1st.

Step 2

Attach 2x4 legs to the assembled shelves using 2 1/2" wood screws. You can space your shelves however you like..but for a general build I usually have 14" between shelves. Lay two 2x4s on the ground and stand shelves upright to attach shelf to the legs. Screw underneath shelf. Flip shelf and attach the other two legs.

Step 3

Attach 2x2s to the top of the console with a Kreg Jig with a 1 1/2" setting using 2 1/2" pocket hole screws.

Step 4

Assemble top by attaching 2x6s with a Kreg Jig on a 1 1/2" setting using 2 1/2" pocket hole screws. Attach to console with 2" wood screws underneath 2x2 top braces.

Step 5

Add X braces to sides of the console using glue and brad nails. Every time I build these consoles the measurements for my Xs always are different. For this console I cut my Xs at about 36 degrees.Normally I put the 2x2 up against the console, mark a line from the back and just make my cut from makes its a lot easier to cut the X to the right fit.
