Aquarium stand and top designed for 30 gallon tanks measuring 12 1/2" x 36".

Directions

Follow the steps below to complete this project.

1

Cut sheet of plywood

Cut all your pieces out of sheet of plywood.

2

Cut pieces for top

Cut all of your pcs for your top. The back, swing door and swing door holder all have to be cut on a table saw at measurements defined in cut list.

3

Assemble top 1

Drill 4 pocket holes in your 13 1/4 pcs at one end only. Attach at each ends of your 38" pc.

4

Assemble top 2

Drill 2 pocket holes at both ends of your 36 1/2" × 3" pc. Attach them to the 13 1/4" pcs.

5

Assemble top 3

Drill 2 pocket holes at each end of your 4"×36 1/2" pc. Drill 4 more across one side. Mount it flush to the top back of the box.

6

Assemble top 4

Attach hinge to the piece installed in previous step. Attach your remaining piece of 8"×36 1/4" to the other side of the hinge.

7

Assemble top 5

Add blocking to the sides, top and bottom. Leave a 1" gap at the bottom and use brad nails to attach a small piece of wood at both ends. I used a spare piece at 8"×3/4" This will allow the top to rest on the aquarium. Using brad nails, add another piece at each ends 3/4" from the top. This will allow the top to rest on something when closed.

8

Assemble bottom

Drill pocket holes. 4 at the top and bottom of all the 11"×24" pieces. 4 at the top and bottom of your 10 1/2" x 24" pieces. Add 4 pocket holes along both sides of these two.

9

Assemble bottom 2

Attach the 10 1/2" pieces to the 11" pieces. Repeat for the second box.

10

Assemble bottom 3

Using the left over from your piece of plywood. Cut two pieces at 10 1/2"× 2". Drill picker holes and attach to the top front of the boxes.

11

Assemble bottom

Add wood veneer to the edges of the 38"×13" pieces. Also add veneer to the edges of both doors. 12"×23 3/4"

12

Assemble bottom 6

Mount both boxes to the two 38" pieces. Places them 2 1/2" from the side edges and a 1/2" from the back.

13

Assemble bottom 7

Attach doors to the front. I used very simple swivel hinges. Many options on what you can use. Also decide if you want knobs.
