I built one similar. FYI I found my bed hardware at LMCHARDWARE.COM. I bought the King size (FS-07) bed hardware kit because it has an extra slat bracket. https://www.lmchardware.com/shop/

I built this out of poplar, at the lumberyard's suggestion, and painted it. It went smoothly and quickly. Like a previous reviewer, I suggest adding 2" to the length of the sideboards, or the mattress fit will be very tight. I also lowered the attachment height of the side boards to keep our mattress and spring at the level of the top of the footboard, but the attachments still seem very sturdy. Easy to make this with a good table saw and (in my view) a good table saw sled.

I built this bed and found it was a good build. A bit pricey for the wood from the big box store but fun to build. As a suggestion I would add two inches to both the side rails and two inches to the head and foot board lengths. We purchased the hardware from Rockler but it comes with out any instructions! Mounting the hard ware in the center of the head & footboard posts as pictured resulted in the slates being 1&1/2” too long. Our mattress fitted snugly in the frame and it is very beautiful. I finished it with a “Mannor Oak” stain and three coats of wipe on poly. I’d of given the design 5 Stars but for the tightness of the mattress.
