Needed a sign for my little boy's birthday party and wanted something simple that he and I could build together. This fit the bill. Instead of stain, we chemically aged the wood with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and dissolved steel wool.
The needed treak is that, with the chalkboard affixed to the back of the frame, there's no way to close the sign so you can store it away for future use. Instead if attaching the plywood to the back of the front frame, we routered the inside of the frame with a rabbet bit. Now the plywood will sit flush in the frame and the sign can close all the way. Perfect.
Thanks for the idea and for contributing.
