We saved the middle support bar, the side rails and slats from our old Ikea Brimnes bed and modified this plan. Also the top boards are wormy chestnut from my parent’s garage (thank you mom and dad). We made the wormy chestnut headboard 30" high instead of the height in the original plan. We can sit up in bed and have full support behind us. Also, since our wormy chestnut had a lot of knot holes and cracks, we used wood glue and clamps to repair the boards and then glued & clamped them to 3/8" plywood before connecting to the back supports. Also we will put wormy chestnut at the foot of the bed to cover the opening (that isn't done yet). #ikeahack #kregpocketjig #wormychestnut

I added four triangular supports under the head board to make it more structural. I also added two rail cleats, one under the head board and foot board to support the ends of the center support. The home depot wood I used was rather warped so I also added tabs where the side rails connect to the head and foot board to straighten it out.

Excellent plans, well laid out and logical. Total cost including stain and screws, around $230. The only modification was I added an extra center support box.
Only two small complaints: the timber for the side cleats is not on the materials list. Fortunately I had an old 2x4 I could rip in half. And when it was finished and assembled we found the mattress was a very tight fit inside the frame. Just means changing the sheets is now a two person job. Otherwise we are very happy with our new bed.

I converted these plans over for a king sized bed. Outstanding plan which makes an outstanding finished product. The true test: My wife is more than well pleased.
